Advances in Building Energy Research Submission Guidelines
Advances in Building Energy Research

Advances in Building Energy Research

1. Submission

Authors are requested to send manuscripts by email to: msantam@phys.uoa.gr or by post to:

Professor Matheos Santamouris, Editor-in-Chief, Advances in Building Energy Research, Physics Department, Physics Building 5, Group Building Environmental Studies, 157 84 Panepistimioupolis, Athens, Greece

Authors should keep a copy of all files / illustrations submitted. All articles will be peer-reviewed before acceptance. The final decision on acceptance will be made by the editor.

While the editors, referees and the publisher will take all possible care of material submitted to the journal, they cannot be held responsible for the loss of or damage to any material in their possession.

2. Language and Style

Articles should be in English and should be written and arranged in a style that is succinct and easy for readers to understand. Illustrations should be used to aid the clarity of the article; do not include different versions of similar illustrations or closely-related diagrams, unless each is making a distinct point.

3. Manuscript Preparation and Layout

The first page of the manuscript should contain the full title of the article and the author(s) names without qualifications or titles, and the full contact details (including email address) of the corresponding author.

The article should include a short abstract and a keyword list (5-10 words). The abstract should be no more than 200 words long and should précis the article, giving a clear indication of its conclusions.

Headings and subheadings should be used so that the article is easy to follow.

Figures and Tables
Authors should aim to present figure / table data as succinctly as possible. All figures and tables must have a caption and be cited in the text.

Symbols, Abbreviations and Conventions
Please use SI (Systeme Internationale) units. Whenever an acronym or abbreviation is used, ensure that it is spelled out in full the first time it appears. Please highlight any unusual symbols, such as Greek letters, that are used in the paper.

References
References should be presented in 'author/date' style in the text and collected in alphabetical order at the end of the article. All references in the reference list should be cited in the text. Each reference must include full details of the work referred to, including paper or chapter titles and opening and closing page numbers. Examples are included below for guidance:

JOURNALS

Feugard, D. C., Abner, R., Wayland, D. (1994) 'Modelling daylight illuminance', Journal of Climate and Applied Meteorology, vol 23, no 2, pp93-109

BOOKS

Duffie, J. A., Beckman, W. A. (1991) Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes, second edition, Wiley Interscience, New York, pp54-59

CHAPTERS IN EDITED BOOKS

Marcus, B. C., Nemo, A. (1992) 'Estimation of total solar radiation from cloudiness in Spain', in Winchester, F., Yu, S., Pfaff, S. W., Major, K. (eds) Global Solar Radiation, vol 2, Raven Press, New York, pp1393-1399

Notes - which should be kept to a minimum - will appear as endnotes. Indicate endnotes with a superscript number in the text, and include the text at the end of the article. Do not use the footnote/endnote commands in word processing software.

ARTWORK
Illustrations should be submitted in a form ready for reproduction - no redrawing or re-labelling will be carried out by the publisher. Illustrations should be supplied as separate graphics files (tiffs or jpegs, 300dpi at the size at which they are to be used). Note that figures and graphs must be comprehensible in black-and-white - use patterns, not colours, to differentiate sections. Illustrations will be printed at approximately 12cm wide.

4. Proofs and Offprints

The first-named author will receive proofs for correction; these should be returned to the publisher within 72 hours of receipt

5. Copyright

Submission of an article to the journal is taken to imply that it represents original work, not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors will be asked to transfer the copyright of their articles to the publisher. Copyright covers the distribution of the material in all forms including but not limited to reprints, photographic reproductions and microfilm. It is the responsibility of the author(s) of each article to collect any permissions and acknowledgements necessary for the article to be published prior to submission to the journal.

4. Permissions

It is the author's responsibility to clear permission to reproduce material protected by copyright. It is usually considered unnecessary to clear permission for text extracts shorter than 400 words, but if you are in any doubt, check with the copyright holder.
