The 21st September was "International Day Against Tree Monocultures." Like any monoculture, single-species tree plantations have a destructive impact on ecosystems and therefore people, and these 'green deserts' are actually increasing thanks to unscrupulous companies trying to cash in on climate change solutions.
This is an excellent short video by Roy and Liane of EcoDoc Africa about why people around the world are opposing the expansion of tree monocultures.
