Sustainable Development Commission Axed

by Earthscan News 23. July 2010 10:14

"The government's sustainability watchdog was today axed as part of coalition spending cuts, the Department for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) confirmed."

Reports the Guardian on Thursday 22nd July 2010. Caroline Lucas MP, leader of the Green Party, described the move as an "absolute disaster", and Jonathon Porritt, the Commission's first Director and Earthscan author, has denouced the decision as being "dogma-driven and brazenly cynical".

SDC commissioners included Earthscan authors Tim Jackson, author of Prosperity Without Growth, and Tim Lang, author of Food Wars and The Atlas of Food.
