The economic growth debate has finally hit mainstream politics. In the few months since Tim Jackson submitted his Prosperity Without Growth report – which calls on the G20 leaders to forge a new  economic system – French President Nicolas Sarkozy  has asked world leaders to join a "revolution" in the measurement of economic progress, Sir Nicholas Stern  warned that rich nations will have to forget about growth to stop climate change, and John Prescott called the current economic growth model ‘immoral’.
